His expertise encompasses destination management and development, tour guiding, itinerary planning, education and training, with particular specialisms in adventure tourism and responsible tourism.

As Project Manager for the Levenmouth Tourism Association, Matthew played a leading role in maximising the opportunities presented by the reopening of the Levenmouth Rail Link—Britain’s newest railway and a £120 million Scottish Government investment. He delivered a comprehensive 100-point action plan, identified new tourism and economic development opportunities, and acted as a key link between the public, private and third sectors. During this time, he represented the project extensively across television, radio and print media, meeting Scotland’s First Minister and other prominent public figures. His flagship projects included the Levenmouth Discovery Trails, the Beyond the Tracks book, the official railway opening celebrations, and the acquisition of Postie, the iconic Scotty Dog sculpture.

Matthew’s tour guiding career is exceptional, having worked for several of the world’s most respected and well-known tour operators. After graduating from university and spending several seasons working overseas, he joined Britain’s original minibus tour operator, Mountain Goat, as its youngest-ever driver-guide. During his time there, he developed new tour products, supported the company’s expansion to a second depot, consistently delivered outstanding commercial results, and contributed to the business winning multiple national tourism awards.

His further international experience includes leading one of Australia’s most iconic backpacker experiences with ScooterRoo, guiding for Australian Kayaking Adventures, and working in Japan for the renowned MariCar where he regularly featured in international publications and television programmes. Matthew currently works as a Driver-Guide with the award-winning Highland Experience, showcasing Scotland’s landscapes, history and culture to visitors from around the world through expertly delivered small-group tours.

Matthew holds a Master’s Degree in Responsible Tourism Management, a BA (Joint Honours) in Adventure Tourism with Outdoor Recreation, and a Higher National Diploma in Outdoor Activities and has completed various other qualifications, certifications and training.
